1. Sketch books?

    May 30, 2008
    by Jon Dix

    What’s a sketch anyway?

According to the dictionary, mostly a pencil drawing not intended as a finished work, but a preliminary exploration.

Well then, 99 per cent of the tattoo sketchbooks of the market are not sketchbooks.

They are finished line designs ready for use, wich means ready to put inside the stencil machine and tattoo….

    Ok, now comes the fun!

Some, or most, or all of the designs in those sketchbooks are finished line designs (not sketches!!!) that were already used to make tattoos by the same tattooist who is selling the “sketchbook”.

    Please think before acting!

  8. The Hairy Ones Shall Dance

    by Maria Trofimova

Virgil Finlay (1914 – 1971) was a pulp fantasy, science fiction and horror illustrator. While he worked in a range of media, from gouache to oils, Finlay specialized in, and became famous for, beautifully detailed pen-and-ink drawings accomplished with abundant stippling and cross-hatching. Despite the very labor-intensive and time-consuming nature of his specialty, Finlay created more than 2600 works of graphic art in his 35-year career.

  10. Friday & Ocean

    by Adrian Wilson

Last summer, casting for the ‘Onto You’ story for Sang Bleu II, I met Friday. Her grandfather had won the Nobel Peace Prize and was honoured with a stamp. Eric Blose of Skull Kitchen Studio in Portland Oregon stuck it on her arm. The gorgeous Ocean Moon was with her.

There are things you dare when you’re 13 and (most likely) don’t dare anymore ever since you hit the “age of reason”. I crossed Sarah the young raccoon on the street last week, but I didn’t have my camera with me. When I saw her again the day after, and I did have my camera, I knew it was a sign…

Oh yes and when I asked her who got the idea for ther hair do, she simply went:
    “Bein, moi!”

Please don’t grow up, you rule.

  13. Leanne

    by Adrian Wilson

I’ve known Leanne for just a couple of hours but I think we’ll be making some interesting things happen in the near future. So, for now, here’s a very small but integral part of a very large personality. Meetings like these serve as the best reminder for making as few plans as possible.

  14. Paula Rego

    by Adrian Wilson

I have photographed many strangers but few have left as strong an impression on me as Paula Rego. I spent about two hours with her but left feeling I had known her for years.

Her eyes sparkle like an excitable child’s, her energy and enthusiasm equally ferocious and she told me she always leaves her studio in time to arrive home for Eastenders.

Her work is as poignant as it is prolific and her story is one worth listening to - http://tinyurl.com/65jh27
