1. Bally SS11 (When the Leather is Not a Whip)

Swiss luxury brand BALLY’s new creative directors Michael Herz and Graeme Fidler made their first appearance in the US during last “Fashion’s Night Out” at the Madison Avenue shop, unveiling the Bally shoe collaboration with Central St. Martins that are now available for purchase. Below, see extracts from the Men’s Press Presentation SS11.

Being the new creative director of BALLY definitely means having to cross a minefield, and requires being able to play games with real consequences… But playing, you know? Enjoying it. No use being left with only your own brain over there, if all you do is being wise.

  2. SILENT SS11: Wonderful leather bags

Even if there is only one possible unified theory, it is just a set of rules and equations. What is it that breathes fire into the equations and makes a universe for them to describe? The usual approach of science of constructing a mathematical model cannot answer the questions of why there should be a universe for the model to describe. Why does the universe go to all the bother of existing?

—Stephen Hawking, A Brief History of Time

Yesterday, I went to see Damir Doma’s “SILENT” collection (click HERE to see images), and had the biggest crush on some super leather bags, nonchalantly stretched out on a white bed: playful and baggy shapes made out of thick and matt fabric, adorned with suttle metallic systems to complete their perfect functionality.

As the shamans say “Now everything is suspended between heaven and earth.” Especially bags, right?

Damir Doma just launched his new line “silent”, more than an excellent name, the line is an affordable adaptation of Damir’s excellent design. While we still have to go to the showroom to have a closer look, here are some pictures of the cocktail Damir gave to celebrate the event. On these pictures you will (not) find the man Damir himself and our dear friend & contributor Sybille Walter of Encens fame, and a dog.

  7. Peter Jensen S / S 2011, seen by Ting Ting Qian

The spirit of Peter Jensen’s awkward, gangly beauty manifests itself this season in the form of Shelley Duvall, the 70s star of Woody Allen and Stanley Kubrick’s films. Fresh with yellows, purples, and greens-the palette popped with the simple colour-blocking of crepe shirts tucked into pencil skirts, scalloped edge dresses and a silhouette that was unmistakably 70s. Long lashes exaggerated on the lower lid seemed to express the candour of a bright eyed ingenue. The mood was bright, atmospheric and pointed towards a season of optimism and youth.
