Roman Signer at the Swiss Institute
The New York Swiss Institute was proud to present tonight one of the rare solo exhibitions of Roman Signer in the United States. The renowned Swiss artist (*1938, lives in St. Gallen) created a series of new works, installations and videos that typically include near-scientific experiments with humorous side effects.
The show is curated by Gianni Jetzer and will last until November, 13th.

once upon a time
School Spirit
When most students are doing nothing but enjoying some fun in the sun on their summer vacation . It was such a surprise and a pleasure to hear that the 2nd and 3rd year fashion design students from the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland put together a fashion show for close friends and family members. Along with a lucky few like myself and Maxime Buchi were asked to take part in this event.
The show took place at what looked to be an abandoned train yard in an industrial part of Basel, Switzerland. At first, I thought we where lost, but soon after stepping out of the cab. I saw a parade of trendy design student hippsters coming our way, “we made it just in time”.
Minutes after arriving the show was about to being.” Is everybody in, is everybody in ?…the show is about to begin. ”text by Daniela Retana, photography by Maxime Büchi & Simon Krebs

traveling mic’s calendar
Our friend, contributor and legendary tattoo-documentarist Traveling Mic has finally released his first photographic calendar. If you are interested, get in touch with us.
“The title page shows a devotee of the Ramanami sect, of whom only a few dozen remain living their secretive and pious life in the very centre of India.
The man depicted has never seen a white person before, but is visibly not too impressed by my presence, showing the balance and confidence his faith is giving him.
His fair skin and piercing blue eyes make the history of these people from the heart of South Asia even more mysterious. “

Novembre at the Swiss Institute, NYC
Here are, finally, some views of the launch of Novembre Magazine at the Swiss Institute in New York City. Thanks to Clément Delépine, Gianni Jeltzer and their numerous assistants and interns, as well as ours, the evening took place in the best conditions.
In one room, people could leaf through the pages of our very precious first issue (only 8 copies touched the American ground until today, so you can imagine their unimaginably high value). Also, a few bloody beverages were served.
In the two other rooms, visitors could attend « ambient readings » and help themselves of a free poetry booklet.
Those situations were curated by Elvira Belafonte and Ariana Reines, featuring works by Dan Hoy, Brian Kerstetter and Filip Marinovich.
The also crowd attended a late performance by Anne-Lise Costes, Trevor Millay and Brad Taormina, aka the band YOU.
Thanks to the artists involved, and to the curious for coming!

Ye Jolire
2 days ago, Jeanne-Salomé and myself attended to this beautiful exhibition by our friends Stéphane Devidal (1st picture—he does not actually look as gangsta as on his picture!) and Charlotte Herzig (both of ex Blakam Madame) and Jean-Christophe Hugenin (2nd picture). Stéphane And Charlotte are also known for their DIY tattoos those they used to make with former group member Nicolas Party.

Evian Tattoo Convention 2010
After all that fashion (and there still are like 5 shows I need to blog… argh…), we need some tattooing. I have to apology though, I have not written down the names of the bearers and the artists… What I remember is: the man with the lines on his throat is the owner of Steele Workshop Tattoo , he tattooed himself in the mirror. The man with the head tattoo and biomechanical chestpiece is a tattoo artist from LA (I have his card, I will check tomorrow). He is a friend of Hooper and his head tattoo is by Hoop. Chestpiece, I don’t know. Will ask him. And the girl… Sorry I just don’t remember. If anyone knows, please share! The dude with the cap is from Paris, I have a card somewhere too. They were a hole posse there, some very good artists I had never heard of before. Thank you and congratulations to Dats of Tattoopassion for the invitation and congratulations for a (I admit) unexpectedly good show! And last but not least, thank you to the amazing Travelingmic for good company and uplifting exchanges.

Bernhard Willhelm S/S 2011
Fluro industrial workwear chaos at the Bernhard Willhelm presentation during Tranoi on Saturday. Foam roadworks followed by rainbow smoke flares, and a hyper-real mix of athletic club gear and ethnic-inspired sportswear. Can’t think of another designer that could pull this off. The fanboys were loving it. Photo by Volker Ketteniss.
