Tyson
I have seen many collections, some beautiful, some ugly. Not even is this one beautiful but, it is largely one of the most impressive as far as is concerned the impact on the body and the visual impression that it provides as a whole. Tyson says he has more than 80 artists on his body. I can believe this. I took as many pictures I could until my eyes rolled back and my head started spinning from this psychedelic rave. Tyson kindly accepted to write all the artists who appear in my pix. Appreciated.
Tyson currently works in Sweden in Theo Jack’s studio: Infamous Tattoo Studio.

Tattooing Legends
Tattooing is a culture that is based on offering a service. It feeds on the principle of exchange, it can not be totally underground and at the same time, for this very reason, it knows how to protect its members, its actors, its History, its stories and its legends. The so called—but what else to call it?—”tattoo culture” is important nowadays because entertainment and mainstream culture are looking for substance. Substance is what they sell. And substance is some thing the Tattoo Culture has, and knows how to preserve. Additionally, this very substance is not materialized as dusty clay statuettes, it is very live human beings. Those who testify by their very existence for the existence of different times, and other legends our society ended up recycling so many times it had people wonder if they ever really existed. Namely, the Hippy movement, the Biker culture, the sailors, the traditional gangsters, outlaws or lo-lives of all kind. Living in the tattoo culture, you get to meet some of these legends, which is always a highly emotional moment.
Recently I met Lal Hardy. In spite of his young age (for a legend), Lal is a living memory for British (and international) tattooing. His shop in greater London is a myth, but not a loud/public myth, a real myth for those who know. Lal himself wears an amazing collection of tattoos from the 80′s and 90′s (among those, a backpiece by Filip Leu). Last but not least, Lal was a lose friend to the late Jason Saga (Rest in Peace).

“This series of work utilizes a sewing technique that I have created and developed over the past two years. Most of the designs and images are based on vintage tattoo imagery. My designs are made in the similar labor intense way that a tattoo is made, using only a needle to draw with, but instead of ink on skin, my medium is only thread on thread.
Each labor-intensive piece is made completely from thread and takes about two weeks to complete. I build up layers upon layers of sewing thread in a circular, web-like pattern. The result is a realistic image rendered into a lace-like material.
The pieces are floated in glass inside of a shadow box and include bits of vintage fabric, ribbon, and lace collaged into the background.
I use tattoo images for the designs for two reasons. First, for their opposite appeal. I am rendering a typically macho icon into something more delicate and softer by utilizing traditional materials. Second, the use of the needle as a drawing medium is comparable to each other. One technique uses ink on skin, while I use thread on fabric to draw with.”

duncan x aka mrx at work
duncan x, is an amazing artist and character.
certainly one of my top 10 favourite tattoo artists ever.
(don’t ask me who the 9 others are!)
Duncan X was featured in sang bleu 0. I will soon be post some of the photos we made on this occasion, but for now, just 3 photos I took of him working at Into You on the occasion of my stay in london for the convention…
BTW, i take the opportunity to warmly thank everybody at Into You and Alex espacially for the support they always showed to SB. And special thought for the late Jason Saga. Never forgotten.MrX’s work can be seen on www.duncanx.com and on the into you myspace page
