Yesterday was a pretty “awesome” day. Met up with SB contributor Estevan Oriol (to whom we owe the casting of the magnificent Ellen von Unwerth shoot) for lunch, then he took myself and CrookedTongues‘ Gary Warnett to a trip to a new dimension.

Not that I am desperately blasé but not many things impress me anymore like what I discovered at Estevan and Mr Cartoon’s studio. Honest.

I can not post pictures yet, thanx to the hotel’s 96k dial modem, but… there will be some serious posting going on as soon as I get back to BK! Thanx to Estevan, Flaco, Willie T, and the Soul Assassins family for an incredible day. And obviously, Gary for suggesting me as a guest for the Vans OTW presentation party!

She raised one eyebrow. Her nose curls up like there is a nasty smell. She opens her mouth and sticks out her tongue.

  3. CHARADE by Jonah Bokaer

    by Jeanne-Salome Rochat

CHARADE from Jonah Bokaer on Vimeo.

A technology-influenced solo that has been animated, choreographed, and performed by the artist through the use of digital choreographic software. The movement for the piece has been designed through the use of 3D animation, and takes the deconstruction of modernist portraiture as its inspiration, presenting a digital “maquette” which is mimicked by the performer. As the moving human body is plotted in the built domain of technology, the performer expands the material from digital software into a three-dimensional solo in real time, situating Bokaer’s moving body in opposition to the animated double, often to surprising effect.

The Sedlec Ossuary (Czech: kostnice Sedlec) is a small Roman Catholic chapel, located beneath the Cemetery Church of All Saints (Czech: Hřbitovní kostel Všech Svatých) in Sedlec, a suburb of Kutná Hora in the Czech Republic. The ossuary is estimated to contain the skeletons of between 40,000 and 70,000 people, many of whom have had their bones artistically arranged to form decorations and furnishings for the chapel.

Jan Svankmajer is married to the surrealist painter Eva Svankmajerova.

Check out his website where books, VHS and even (!) DVD goods can be purchased.
