Machine Project is a non-profit community space in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles investigating art, technology, natural history, science, music, literature, and food (more keywords here). In their Echo Park storefront, they produce events, workshops, and site-specific installations using hands-on engagement to make rarefied knowledge accessible.

Outside of the storefront, they operate as a loose confederacy of artists producing shows at locations ranging from the Santa Monica beach to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. They’re currently developing a year long project exploring how visitors experience the Hammer Museum.

Notably, they are organizing in February their very first online writing workshop intitled “Online Writing Workshop in Experimental Science Fiction”, with instructor Mark von Schlegell.

As told on their website, “the class will explore experimental science fiction through readings, discussions and writing workshops. Drawing on readings from the Book of Elijah through to Samuel Delany and beyond, the course will explore how science fiction as a genre works and how to push it to its limits. Students will also write and submit original sci-fi writing in an online workshop and receive feedback from their peers and from Mark.”

Born Frédéric Gafner in Geneva in 1969 from parents in dance and photography, Foofwa d’Imobilité studied at the Ecole de Danse de Genève and was a member of the Geneva-based Ballet Junior. He danced professionally with the Stuttgart Ballet in Germany (1987-1990) and with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, in New-York (1991-1998).
Foofwa has performed as a dancer around the world, notably at the Paris Opera, the Fenice Theater in Venice, Italy, and at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. His work has been presented by The Kitchen, Chez Bushwick and the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York, the Maison de la Danse and the Biennale de la danse in Lyon, France, and over 40 other cities in Europe.

I often issue a statement, if you will, that I do not care for stories about cats. In fact, I do not care for cats in general. Some take such statements as a challenge and dare to send me cat stories.

I grudgingly admit I loved that one, despite the inclusion of a cat.

LA based producer, Samo Sound Boy is part of the next generation of young and emerging new artists coming out of the US producing a fresh and lively club sound. Samo’s First release was out on Palms Out Sounds last year and has since taken the world by storm. Samo is sharpening his craft creating a genre of club music mixing the sounds of old Chicago house, hip hop, RnB and club rave.
