SANG BLEU (‘blue blood’) is an independent crossover project driven by its members’ personal commitment to art, with the eponymous magazine at its center. Globally active since 2006, its tendrils reach into the worlds of contemporary arts, cultural studies, and scientific research, federating unlikely crowds and creating unexpected works in the aim of provoking new paths and locations for creative debate.

    SANG BLEU SIX (winter 2011)

Since SANG BLEU’s inception, we’ve spilled much ink, and darkened many pixels, presenting our vision of the community dimension of art and the social lives of those enmeshed in underground cultures. Today, many of the practices we’ve documented have gained different statuses in the general creative community, sparking new debates and creating bold new aesthetic frontiers. SANG BLEU 6 marks a new chapter in our collective’s history too, in which we push the boundaries, mutate and evolve, challenging our readers to play their own part in the game as they seek to articulate the face-off between types of content not usually presented together.

SANG BLEU is a community business: an artist and viewer driven business. Seeking to serve the artistic community and increase our reach, our exclusive features will be available in a variety of formats. A series of moving image-based works will be published exclusively on our new iPad application, whilst mechanically printed still works will be published through the widely distributed paper magazine. Digital features will be downloadable on demand, whilst the paper magazine will make its way around the world in the conventional manner, through libraries, galleries, and museums. Additionally, a series of limited edition artworks, produced by a considered selection of contributors, will be presented at timely occasions, and advertised in the fine art sector.

In our permanent quest for new horizons and avant-garde content, Sang Bleu invited four fantastic innovators to work as guest editors of SANG BLEU 6. Focusing our perspective and digging deeper into SANG BLEU’s traditional domains of interest—fetish, art, fashion, tattooing and body art—we’ve raised the bar, working exclusively with a carefully considered selection of contributors and publishing specifically commissioned, highly ambitious productions.
